Our History

The Parish of St Thomas More’s Catholic Primary School Brighton-Le-Sands was proclaimed in November 1937. The foundation stone for a new combined school and church was laid on the Feast of Christ the King, 30 October 1938, by Archbishop Norman T. Gilroy. The building was completed in 1939 and the Sisters of Charity began conducting classes at St Thomas More’s until they withdrew from the school at the end of 1985 and the following year the Catholic Education Office appointed a lay principal.

St Thomas More’s Catholic Primary School continues to live by the charism of the Sisters of Charity.  The Sisters of Charity motto ‘Caritas Christi urget nos’ (The love Christ urges us on) inspires us as a school community to service with justice, love and truth seeing  Christ in all things. As a school community, we continue to foster strong relationships with the Sisters of Charity, celebrating our Founders Day annually and awarding worthy recipients with the Mary Aikenhead Award.
