St Thomas More’s Catholic Primary School Brighton-Le-Sands is celebrating its strong 2025 NAPLAN results, with strong gains in the number of students reaching the top two bands across multiple learning areas.
The school recorded increases in Year 5 students with ‘exceeding’ and ‘strong’ proficiency levels across all five NAPLAN domains, with exceptional gains in numeracy (up 25.32% on 2024), spelling (up 21.5%), reading (up 12.82%) and writing (up 12.82%).
Principal Sean Brown said the school’s results reflect a long-term focus on intentional teaching, professional collaboration and the values at the heart of Catholic education.
“Every student’s learning needs are at the centre of our planning and practice, and our Catholic faith inspires us to nurture the whole child,” Principal Brown said.
“We’ve built a culture where teachers work closely together, using data, coaching and shared strategies to support growth in every classroom, while fostering a learning environment grounded in care, respect and high expectations.”
Danielle Cronin, Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools said the gains reflect the commitment to improving teaching quality through ongoing professional learning, systematic assessment practices, and targeted intervention strategies.
“Sydney Catholic Schools invests in proven teaching strategies to ensure every student can thrive,” Ms Cronin said.
“Schools such as St Thomas More’s are continuing to foster academic excellence by ensuring that every student’s needs are known and teachers are equipped to use a range of evidence-based practices to ensure that every learner is succeeding, regardless of their background.”
“By focusing on the individual needs of every learner and equipping teachers with the resources they need, we are building strong foundations for future student achievement.”
In the 2025 NAPLAN results, more than 75 per cent of Sydney Catholic Schools students across Years 3, 5, 7, 9 were deemed proficient in reading, writing and numeracy, falling into the top two bands.
